Found a cool game that runs fantastic on a lower end system? Do you have a guide for running a newer game below the minimum requirements?

Irc.snoonet.com #lowendgaming OR browser-based access. This is a general guideline, for people on integrated intel GPUs and myself (I have iris 5100 on retina macbook 13). Note that I also posted it in a comment reply, however I would like to expand it a bit more and also maybe everybody can see and use and I can learn from the tips you may have. Zero: is that we are mostly stuck with games released prior to 2014-2015, however titles may come that are not that demanding. But based on the competition between PC/PS4,XBOne, most games will be demanding. First, if you don't, find out what model exactly is your graphic card: After you know your model, you may also know that Intel on their website has a list of playable games (with 30+ FPS) on your GPU model: I will follow by looking at or a similar website (steam store reviews.) to assess how fun a game on that list may be.
has a benchmark of recorded fps on different games and different graphic cards. You can select the games you desire and also put your model number to restrict the results and increase the speed of page. This website also tries to predict the performance of a game based on its performance on a simillar GPU to your model's. However it can be underestimating from time to time (I could play watchdogs on my iris 5100, with 20+ fps, while it is shown as red and disappointing there, so don't be let down if you see bad fps there, there is still room to improve)., is the link to intel GPU models on their list.
Clicking on GPU of your choice will send you to a review page with more detail on the graphic cards performance. For this next tip I highly recommend having software such as,. (you can go to information below the recent update, which has more links to such tweaks) Now you may ask questions like can I play game ' X' on my pc and according to forum rules you cannot ask! The answer obviously varies.
But what I do is a Google search on 'game title Intel GPU model number' and most of the times either someone has already posted a video on YouTube or asked on a steam / game forum about it. Usually there you also find settings or tweaks to make a game playable (30 fps).
I found these tips very useful and by also applying these approach to other games I could get 20+ on the games that I have played. (I will post these on separate topics later) These tweaks can range from manually reducing and disabling the graphics options of a game, editing a config file in game directory, using a mod to reduce the memory usage or forcing the game to use DX9 instead of openGL or DX10+. The other approach (before buying the game) I haven't tried yet is to ask people who own the game and a pc with similar spec to try and run the game and tell me the fps they get (ex. I think when GTA V comes I will ask someone interested to turn off their dedicated GPU and run only on integrated GPU to see the performance. Bottom-line 'fps' - frame per second of a game is what should matter to you and my personal experience indicates if it is 20+ you can play it. However most fast reaction games are best played 30+ and some hardcore gamers would like to run a game 60+(which I find it difficult to get on new games on my iris 5100) edit: fixed typos, added a link to Notebookcheck on intel GPUs only edit 2: Updated new methods (from comments and past 2 weeks experience).: search the name of the game you want to play.
Usually you can find tweaks to make this game playable and increase frame-per-second. Tweaks range from modifying console commands, config file, and downloading plug-ins. makes self extractable config files to make the games playable in a fairly low end computers. He tests the games in a computer system with geforce GT520M.
(intel HD3000 and 4000 are faster graphic cards). As suggested by comments from user below: has a list of config to play games, targeted at intel GMA 4500 graphic cards. if you are searching to increase your fps, maybe someone has already made a video on a more popular graphic card of the same performance (Notebookcheck can help with finding that graphic card, however search for 'benchmark your-graphic-card-model' you should be able to pinpoint graphic cards that run at similar performance. Then you can search Youtube with the 'game + the new graphic card model', to find out what tweaks you can change to make it playable. Cloud gaming is not much of an option yet, since even Onlive shut down (by april 30 - 2015). Sony bought them like they did with Gaikai.
I had a nice experience of gaming (small lag, high graphics - good fps) with onlive. However their limited game list was a disadvantage. If you have any other tips that I may have missed, I'd appriciate it TL;DR: some tips to run games on integrated GPUs of intel. Visit for list of games that can run on based on intel graphic card model, and a summary of all games' fps on intel GPUs. I have never owned a high end PC before 2014, and playing games in ultra/high was a dream for me. Though when I bought a high-end for one year, never had to worry about the settings.
It was very appealing, but was not 100% of my time on gaming and owning two computers(1 desktop and 1 laptop) was not quite appealing. At the end, I sold it, have not missed it since my new iris 5100 laptop! I had a 2008 laptop before 2014 and thenI was subscribed to, which I could play 'sleeping dogs' better than my current low end! Also might wanna add that Windows 8.1/2012 r2 have lower fps for Intel Graphics (or atleast on my Intel HD 4000) for some Frostbite 3 games like Battlefield 4.
On 8.1 it's locked at 20fps (probably driver issues), on 7/2008 r2 it should be 30fps average (45-60fps on rogue transmission and other land or sea map TDM maps) at 720p and 65% res scale. Other games has quite minor fps boost. Also helps if you are low on ram, consider dual boot. Your current os for work and 7 for gaming to make win7 as lightweight as possible. And disable aero and use windows classic theme for better fps on windowed mode.
